MO CHEN: Vessels of Memory — solo exhibition by MO CHEN at L Gallery, Hangzhou, 16 May – 31 May 2026.
In maps drawn by medieval cartographers, distinctive buildings often appeared as vessels that contained not only their inhabitants but also the stories hidden behind their walls. Taking this idea as a point of departure, the exhibition reimagines houses as cartographic images. They are not merely places of dwelling, but containers of memory—repositories of lived experiences and personal histories. Through a visual language reminiscent of historical atlases and topographic records, the project seeks to document these spaces of memory, preserving them at the very moment they begin to change.
