Project L

Project L is L Gallery’s open call for students. Each season sets one theme; the curatorial team reviews every entry anonymously, selected works are shown in the gallery in Hangzhou, and everyone receives written feedback.

The Theme — 《Line》

A line is the earliest form of expression, and the hardest. It appears before anything else: on cave walls, in the margins of a textbook, in the first stroke of a drawing. It is both contour and trace — describing a shape while revealing the speed and hesitation of the hand.

“Line” invites young artists to start again from this most basic element. Drawing and writing, embroidery and stitching, generated curves, movement recorded on video — all of these are lines. We are not looking for stacked technique, but for how a single line carries a judgement.

Any medium, as long as the work has to do with the line.
