Qin Qiang was born in Shandong, China, in 1996. He is a postdoctoral researcher in Fine Arts at Tsinghua University and received his PhD from Hongik University in South Korea. An independent artist and curator, he currently lives and works between Seoul and Beijing.
Working primarily with ink, Qin explores the possibilities of extending and transforming the language of painting—particularly ink painting—within a contemporary context. Rather than simply representing everyday experience, his practice approaches the conditions of contemporary life from the perspective of China’s post-1995 generation, examining the ways in which things exist and the social realities underlying their appearances.
Situated between the traditions of Chinese ink painting and contemporary artistic thought, Qin continually reconfigures the relationships between personal experience, perceptions of the present, and cultural identity. Through this process, he develops a visual language that engages critically with contemporary reality while maintaining a distinct spiritual and contemplative dimension.
